Conjugating regular -а / -я verbs in the present tense

There are three groups of verbs in Bulgarian, and each group has a different way to conjugate the regular verbs within it. This post focuses on the third group of verbs, those ending in -а or -я in the third person.

To conjugate an -а / -я verb in the present tense, you first take the third person singular form and then add the following endings (you can see some examples below):

First person singular
Second person singular
-a (no change)Third person singular
-меFirst person plural
-теSecond person plural (and polite form)
Third person plural

разбурам (to understand)

(аз) разбирамI understand
(ти) разбирашyou understand (singular)
(тоѝ, тя, то) разбираhe / she / it understands
(ние) разбирамеwe understand
(вие, Вие) разбиратеyou understand (plural and formal form)
(те) разбиратthey understand

искам (to want)

(аз) искамI want
(ти) искашyou want (singular)
(тоѝ, тя, то) искаhe / she / it wants
(ние) искамеwe want
(вие, Вие) искатеyou want (plural and formal form)
(те) искатthey want

идвам (to come)

(аз) идвамI come
(ти) идвашyou come (singular)
(тоѝ, тя, то) идваhe / she / it comes
(ние) идвамеwe come
